The dualism between angels and demons has always been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for writers, novelists, painters and musicians. Astor Piazzolla wrote his first Ángel Tango towards the end of the 1950s. At the beginning of the next decade, other angel-related tangos followed, including L’Introducción al Ángel and La muerte del Ángel, which some time later were arranged for the classic quintet of tango.
In all likelihood, this fact reflected the interiority of Piazzolla, which at that time was more linked to angels than to demons, though they were both present in his life. During the 1960s, the Argentine composer wrote other songs devoted to angels and demons, including Milongadel Ángel, Resurrecióndel Ángel, Ángel Tango, Romancedel Ángel and Vayamos al Ángel.
Although Piazzolla has never thought of creating a whole work or a suite, these tracks have a very obvious connection, being all tangible of awe-inspiring simplicity, but pervaded by a marvelous brilliance. Tango is dance, tango is music, tango is art, an infinite love for art, the same love that joins the members of ChamberJam Europe and is clearly perceived in each of them.
I was fortunate enough to meet the great Astor Piazzolla, who confided to me that with his music he always tried to overcome time and all the frontiers, in the awareness that everything was destined to change. We are part of this journey, during which we will meet both angels and demons.
